US infantry soldier (of the 3rd Platoon, Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, 32nd Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade, 10th Mountain Division) SPC Matthew Ledford rests his head in his hands, exhausted, at COP (Combat Operating Post) Charkh after a firefight in the south of Logar Province, Afghanistan, Sept. 2009.
The first ever Somerville Toy Camera Festival (STCF) held in collaboration with the Washington Street Art Center celebrates the quirky and creative results that happen when the photographer is forced to loosen his/her controls.
During August and September, The Nave Gallery, Nave Gallery Annex, and the Washington Street Art Center will each host an exhibition on toy camera photography. The Washington Street Arts Center kicks off the festival with the exhibition, Black, White & a Little Local Color. Pieces included were chosen by the 2013 STCF organizing committee. Exhibitions at the Nave Gallery and Nave Annex were juried by Isa Leshko.
