In 2016 alone, the Somerville Homeless Coalition (SHC) served 2,119 people through its programming, including 663 children. 236 individuals were prevented from becoming homeless through their case management and housing program services. Additionally, through programming like Project SOUP, 1,366 people had access to food.
Created as an annual sale of knitted goods to benefit SHC, The Wrap Around Project has grown into a yearlong campaign that combines art and activism to raise awareness of the issue of homelessness in our area. Somerville’s homeless population is comprised of elders, single working adults, disabled individuals, and many families with children from newborns to teenagers. The typical homeless family that SHC serves is a mother with two children.
The Nave has a number of exciting events planned throughout the year to promote and support the work of SHC. We hope that you will join us in wrapping our arms around our community.
