The Nave Gallery (Somerville, MA) invites artists to participate in the juried exhibition: Metal and Fire: The Children of Vulcan.

Vulcan, the Roman God of fire and metalwork ushered humanity along a blazing path to civilization. From body ornaments and tools, to weaponry and currency, metal and metal workers have shaped an enhanced out lives throughout time. Even today, there are those who still work alongside the heat of the forge, covered in sparkling dust, and breathing in noxious fumes that help shape our world.

Within the language of heat and chemistry let metal and its fiery transformation take center stage in the alchemy of creation.

CALL FOR WORK:
This is a process oriented exhibition. Works of sculpture, jewelry, video, photography, and small metals are welcome, and will be exhibited along with techniques, tools and descriptions of procedures in the metalworking process that aided in the creation of the works.

Additionally, we welcome proposals for performance art or events.

GUIDELINES:

– $15 entry fee payable through PayPal

– A maximum of three pieces may be entered for consideration

– Submissions will be accepted through March 23, 2015

– The Nave Gallery will retain a 30% commission for work sold

– Artist is responsible for cost of shipping work to and from the gallery

HOW TO SUBMIT YOUR WORK:
-Send up to three artwork submissions as .jpg files to info@navegallery.org.

-Each .jpg should be a minimum of 4×6” at 300 dpi. Label images as “NAME_#.jpg” where NAME is your last name and # is the submission number

-Include an image list with your jpeg submission email, indicating submission number, title, size, process and year, as well as a brief artist bio and statement

-Indicate how you heard about the call

-There is a $15 submission fee, payable through Paypal. Paypal is available here. Please include “Vulcans” in the memo

Accepted pieces should be delivered to the Nave Gallery located in The Clarendon Hill Presbyterian Church outside Teele Sq (155 Powder House Blvd, Somerville, MA) ready to install.
