The Nave Gallery Annex (Somerville, MA) invites artists to participate in the curated exhibition Vessels.
What is a vessel?
-A hollow container, especially one used to hold liquid, such as a bowl or cask
-A duct or canal holding or conveying blood or other fluid in an animal, or any of the tubular structures in the vascular system of a plant, serving to conduct water and mineral nutrients from the root
-A person seen as the agent or embodiment, as of a quality: a vessel of mercy
-A large boat or ship
What does a vessel or container mean to you? Is it a functional object, or something spiritual or emotional? Is it a “useful pot to put things in”? A place to put things for safekeeping or a way to display its contents? Do you want to contain yourself or something else?
We welcome submissions of vessels or representations of vessels. They can be made of traditional fiber arts materials such as thread, yarn, fabric, or basket-making materials. Or they can be made of surprising materials used as fiber, employing fiber techniques such as weaving, sewing, knitting, quilting, or basketry. Both 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional work is eligible.
–There is a $15 entry fee payable through PayPal
