DATE & TIME:
Saturday, July 18; noon-5 pm
LOCATION:
Traffic Island in Davis Square
WHAT’S HAPPENING:
Davis Square’s traffic island will be transformed by loops of yarn with a community knit-in and yarnstorm.
Weave Through the Square
Looms will border Davis’s own little island. Come on by and be a part of an interactive tapestry. We’ll have yarn on hand, but feel free to bring your own pieces of ribbon, fabric and mementos to be a part of this ArtBeat installation.
Grow Roots in The Caring Forest
Knitters and crocheters alike are invited to join the Nave Gallery in producing pieces for a fall installation (The Caring Forest) that will take place in one of Somerville’s parks. The installation, part of the gallery’s Wrap Around Project which supports and promotes the work of the Somerville Homeless Coalition, will represent four key areas related to homelessness: food security, education, housing and community.
Inspired by mosaic, the installation will be based on pieces in multiples of 4” (4”x4”; 4”x8”; 8”x16”; etc). Squares and rectangles of all kinds—plain and elaborate—are wanted!
There will be lots of yarn on hand, so bring your needles and hooks and grow some roots!
Community Loops
Got an unfinished project and want to meet other crocheters, knitters and craftsters? Come on by, sit for a bit and get your project over its hump all the while making some connections with our island community
