
The Nave Gallery seeks volunteers or interns to assist in gallery administration and help support its mission to provide art spaces and opportunities for collaborative, experimental and non-commercial work. Located in Somerville, MA, the Nave has a ten-year history of supporting artists and musicians through all stages of their careers. Its main space is located in Teele Square; in January 2013, the gallery launched an additional space in Davis Square.
This position is remote with work coordination done largely over email. However, meetings with key volunteers and/or the gallery director will be necessary. Evening and weekend availability for these meetings is preferred. If you are interested in becoming an intern, this position is unpaid, but course credit is available. Examples of projects include but are not limited to:
-Producing print and electronic promotional materials for exhibition and events, including writing copy and designing pieces
-Promoting calls to artists; helping to develop database of contacts in art schools, and arts organizations for outreach
-Writing copy for web and assisting with web management
-Managing social media channels and helping to develop strategy
-Identifying potential inkind supporters
-Assisting with special fundraising efforts and events
-Working with curatorial team to help hang shows and set up the opening reception
-Gallery sitting (occasional)
Applicants should be organized and detail oriented. Qualified candidates will have design experience, strong writing skills, and the ability to work well independently while also taking direction from volunteer staff.
