The Nave Gallery Annex (Somerville, MA) invites artists to participate in the juried exhibition 65°: An Exhibition of Contemporary Encaustic Art. 65° Centigrade is the approximate melting point for beeswax, the material used by many encaustic artists. This exhibition highlights the variety of techniques, materials and subject matter being used by today’s wax artists. Both 2D and 3D work will be considered.
GUIDELINES:
Pieces must include encaustic as the primary medium.
There is a $15 entry fee payable through PayPal.
A maximum of 3 pieces may be entered for consideration.
Submissions will be accepted through November 2, 2013.
The Nave Gallery will retain a 30% commission for work sold.
Artist is responsible for cost of shipping work to and from the gallery.
You do not need to be a Somerville resident to apply.
HOW TO SUBMIT YOUR WORK:
Please send up to three artwork submissions as .jpg files to info[at]navegallery[dot]org.
Each .jpg should be 1200 pixels in the long dimension and named as “#_NAME.jpg” where # is the submission number and NAME is your last name.
Include an image list with your jpeg submission email, indicating submission number, title, size, process and year, as well as a brief artist bio and statement.
There is a $15 submission fee, payable through Paypal or with check. Paypal is available here. Please include “65°” in the memo. Checks should be sent to: 53 Chester St, Somerville, MA 02144.
Accepted pieces should be delivered to the Nave Gallery Annex located in Davis Square (53 Chester St, Somerville, MA) ready to install.

ABOUT THE CURATOR
Leika Akiyama is a multi media visual artist whose work has been exhibited in the New England area including the DeCordova Sculpture Park and Museum, Montserrat College of Art, Mills Gallery at the Boston Center for the Arts and the Nave Gallery in Somerville. Akiyama is a resident artist at the Boston Center for the Arts, and has also organized exhibitions such as JAPAN-O-RAMA at ArtSpace@16 and Wasabi at the Nave Gallery. Her encaustic paintings have been shown in group shows including Encaustic Painting–the Way of Wax, Winifsky Gallery, Salem State College, MA and Women and Wax, Higgins Art Gallery, Cape Cod Community College, MA.
She has studied painting at the Boston University School for the Arts and has spent time painting at the Vermont Studio Center and in Trieste, Italy. She is currently working on the Celebrity Series project Play Me, I’m Yours. Hello Kitty is her personal sacred icon.
