ABOUT:
Wall to Wall II: Working Together (W2W II) reprises 2016’s successful Wall to Wall: Art Builds Community at the Nave, and will also feature a diverse group of artists. W2W II will focus on the practice, process and benefits of artistic collaboration, especially across disciplines. The goal of W2W II is to model and encourage artistic and social collaboration among artists and non-artists alike.
EVENTS:
W2W II artists will discuss their personal experience in collaboration, with a focus on how the process challenged their individual practice and contributed to their artistic and personal growth. They will discuss their work and that of their collaborator(s), and how each influenced the other. Multiple demonstrations are anticipated, including live art-making, performances a collaboration between artists and non-artists and others. Our intent is to fill the month with events.
PLEASE NOTE:
– Artwork may be from any discipline: drawing, painting, sculpture, performance, digital media, etc. Work must be the result of a collaboration between two or more individuals. Preference will be given to compelling results of collaborations between artists from different disciplines and/or backgrounds.
– If you are submitting digital media, please be prepared to provide your own equipment.
– Live painting, performance art and public art lessons will be considered as part of our ongoing event series. There may be some limitations based on gallery hours, physical space or other factors.
– Accepted pieces should be delivered to the Nave Gallery at 155 Powderhouse Boulevard, Somerville, MA ready for presentation.
– Artwork must fit through a standard 32” door (or be able to be broken down to fit).
– Artists are responsible for cost of shipping work to and from the gallery.
– The Nave Gallery will retain a 30% commission for work sold.
HOW TO SUBMIT YOUR WORK:
– There is a $15 submission fee per artist, payable through Paypal. Paypal is available here. Please include “Submission: W2W II” in the note field
– A maximum of three pieces may be entered for consideration
– Please send submissions to stephankd@gmail.com and bianca.broxton@gmail.com.
– 2D and 3D works should be submitted as .jpeg images
– Each .jpeg should be 1200 pixels in the long dimension and named as “NAME_#.jpg” where # is the submission number and NAME is your last name
– Video works may be submitted via a link to youtube, vimeo, or a similar platform
– Installation and performance proposals should be no longer than two pages, preferably including example images
– Include an image list in your submission email, indicating submission number, title, size, process, and year
– A brief statement describing the collaborative process of creating your artwork will assist us in making our selections.
– Please include a short biography, website links and contact emails for each artist

ABOUT THE CO-CURATORS:
Karl Stephan is a Somerville artist, art-educator and curator who works and teaches in his studio and at the Museum of Fine Arts. In 2016, Karl curated Wall to Wall: Art Builds Community at Nave Gallery. He has documented the local street art scene since 2010 and holds a Master of Arts in Teaching from Tufts and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts. He has shown his work widely since 2007.
Bianca Broxton is a Medford native and a graduate of School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University. Bianca has shown work in several galleries and most recently played multiple roles in an art performance directed by Danielle Abrams in conjunction with the exhibit Leap Before You Look: Black Mountain College 1933–1957 at the ICA Boston.
