Vanessa Marcoux and Sandy McDonald

The Nave Gallery is pleased to announce a call for entries for You Are Here: Maps and Art, an exhibition curated by Vanessa Marcoux and Sandy McDonald. This exhibition will examine the role and use of maps in art, both as a subject and as a medium.  It is open to artists in all media including installation and video.

For centuries, humans have used maps to chart their world –from the human body to the stars and everything in between. Both foreign and familiar, we can lose ourselves and find ourselves in the landscape of maps.

Artists are encouraged to explore from the literal to the conceptual meaning of maps. Artwork can incorporate the geographic, social, scientific, real, and imagined use of maps. 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional works will be accepted. Artists working in photography, sculpture, collage, video, mixed media, and digital art are encouraged to apply!

Please send up to three artwork submissions as .jpg files to youarehere.submissions [at] gmail [dot] com.

Each .jpg should be 1200 pixels in the long dimension and named as “#_NAME.jpg” where # is the submission number and NAME is your last name.

Please include an image list with your jpeg submission email, indicating submission number, title, size, process, and year; as well as a brief artist bio and statement.

There is a $15 submission fee, paid with Paypal or with check. Paypal is available here. Please include “You Are Here” in the memo. Checks should be sent to: 155 Powder House Blvd, Somerville, MA 02144. You do not need to be a Somerville resident to apply.

Accepted pieces should be delivered to the Nave Gallery located inside of the Clarendon Hill Presbyterian Church (155 Powder House Blvd, Somerville, MA) ready to install.
